Climbing Mt. Apo seemed to be nothing for some people because for them, climbing in a mountain without getting anything is such a fool thing. But for some, to reach Mt. Apo is an honor and a fulfillment. Some said that surpassing all the challenges during the climb is very rewarding. What is it that Mt. Apo really has? Why do people get excited every time they hear something about Mt. Apo?

Mt. Apo is 2,954 meters (9,691 feet) in height. It owns the title “The Highest Peak in the Philippines “, which means that Mt. Apo is the grandfather of the Philippine mountains. Reading and hearing all the testimonials of the climbers who have climbed the Mt. Apo; realizing their purpose; the things they encountered along their journey; the feelings they had while climbing until they reached the peak; will teach us significant lessons: being proud of your own and letting everyone in the world know about it. Mt. Apo is well inhabited with rivers, waterfalls, lakes, healthy forest, fresh fruits, and different faces of rocks; absolutely beautiful. The views you can see are overwhelming that you can’t help not to take pictures of it. Rock climbing is somehow tiresome that it makes the climbers hungry but got even more excited. A “sulfur side show” is the most exciting scenery during the climb. The Mt. Apo releases a sulfur steam from its summit. Could you imagine seeing its blue flame and smelling its stifling odor? It sounds unusual but true. Walking and climbing a hundred miles is quite a long journey. Before reaching the summit of Mt. Apo, a crater lake will be encountered. A crater lake is a bowl-shaped cavity that can be found in a mountain. Little distance from there is finally the peak or the summit of Mt. Apo. “Reaching the peak of Mt. Apo is the most fulfilling thing I’ve done here in the Philippines”, Karen Davila stated. Mt. Apo is known to the natives as kingdom of the mountain god, Apo Sandawa. Situated in the island of Mindanao, Mt. Apo serves as the home of tropical forest and of the endangered Philippine eagle. Almost 50% of its area is classified as forest. The forest prevents soil erosion, flash floods, and landslides. That is one of the reasons why Davao City is typhoon-free. The city has enjoyable weather. It has been said by the experts that Davao City has a uniform distribution of rainfall, temperature, humidity, and air pressure.
